The bending is considered one of the most important processes in metal manufacturing since it is a forming operation without separation of material and plastic deformation used to shape metal surfaces. The bending process is performed in a curtain press, by compression of metal dice applied to a flat surface. In the process, the material located on one side of the neutral axis will be compressed (inner zone) and the one located on the opposite side (outer zone) will be pulled as a consequence of the applied stresses. As a result of this state of tensile-compression the material will have an immediate deformation effecting a curvature along the axis of the piece manufactured with a radius and angle determined according to previously calculated specifications. Depending on the angle, radius and shape required in the bending, specific dies are used that provide the desired structure.
